Kyle Busch looks to make NASCAR history with "triple crown"

Written by: Brainiac

NASCAR Lines at Inspin. NASCAR Sprint Cup points series leader Kyle Busch is trying for a historic trifecta this weekend: three races in three series in three states in three days.

Busch plans to qualify his Sprint Cup car at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania on Friday, then fly to Texas Motor Speedway for a Craftsman Series truck race Friday night.

He’ll fly back to Pocono for practice Saturday then head to Nashville, Tenn., for a Nationwide Series race later that day, then return to Pocono for the Cup race Sunday.

Assuming no travel glitches or weather disruptions, Busch will become the first driver in NASCAR history to compete in all three of its touring series at different tracks on the same weekend.

“Shouldn’t be that big a deal,” Busch, 23, said. “I don’t think that I’ve got any stamina worries or anything like that. I think all that will play out. It will be fine.

“The only thing that I do worry, we have a TV crew and stuff like that going with us. They’re wanting to film what goes on the plane, off the plane, this and that and everywhere. That’s kind of going to be probably the most draining thing, is just toting them around with us.”

Busch will fly private planes for the trip and has food lined up for each leg. So he should get enough nutrition and sleep.

“I read that Kyle is doing that. I’m a little jealous,” Carl Edwards, fourth in the Sprint Cup Series, said.

Busch has 10 wins this season (four in Cup, four in Nationwide and two in the trucks). He leads the Cup standings by 142 points over Jeff Burton and is second to Clint Bowyer in the Nationwide standings.

“My job is to win races and go fast and be competitive in everything I drive,” he said. “As long as I’m doing that, then I can hopefully see a paycheck coming.”

Here are Busch’s current odds to win each race on WagerWeb.com:

Sams Town 400 (Trucks): +245

Federated Auto Parts (Nationwide): +225

Pocono 500 (Sprint Cup): +500
