The Cavaliers will be desperate for a win on Tuesday night when they return home to Cleveland for Game 3 of the 2007 NBA Basketball Finals, trailing the Spurs 2-0 in the series.
The Cavs were completely outplayed by the Spurs for the first three quarters in Game 2 on Sunday night. At one point the Cavaliers trailed by 28 points in the first half and looked dead to rights in the series. Cleveland staged a comeback in the fourth quarter after going on a 22-4 run, but the Spurs woke up from their short stupor and hung on for a 103-92 victory. Tony Parker delivered another solid performance with a game-high 30 points. Manu Ginobili was a powerhouse off the bench with 25 points and Tim Duncan chipped in with 23 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
While the Spurs' big three were all firing, LeBron James led the Cavs with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists. That was a much better performance than his lackluster 14 points in Game 1, but it still wasn't enough to compete with the Spurs. Daniel Gibson poured in 15 points and Drew Gooden buried 13 points, but Larry Hughes' injured foot made him a non-factor again, as he went scoreless in 20 minutes.
The Cavaliers team may appear to be in an inescapable hole after getting worked over by the Spurs in the first two games in the series, but for some hope all they have to do is look back to the Miami Heat last season. In last year's Finals the Heat dropped the first two games against the Mavericks in Dallas, before returning home and taking the next three games in Miami.
A return to the Quicken Loans Arena may be just what the Cavaliers need to get their confidence back and get back in the series. Cleveland is 7-1 at home during their playoff run this season. To continue their domination at home, the Cavaliers need to find a way around the Spurs' lockdown defense and get LeBron back on track.
Unless the LeBron that torched the Pistons late in the Eastern Conference finals shows up in Cleveland, the Cavaliers' first trip to the NBA Finals will end up being a short cameo appearance.
Tip-off for Game 3 on Tuesday night is 9:00 ET.
