The superstar freshman point guard is headed to the NBA after leading John Calipari’s club to the brink of a NCAA championship, but Coach Cal already has his replacement: Tyreke Evans, the most valuable player of the McDonald's All-American game last month, announced he is going to Memphis.
A three-time Pennsylvania state player of the year, Evans averaged 29 points per game as a senior and capped it off with a 21-point, 10-rebound performance in the McDonald's game, the top event for high school seniors.
He seriously considered nearby Villanova as well as Texas.
Evans won’t officially sign his letter of intent, he says, until Calipari officially signs a contract extension he and the school have agreed upon.
