According to various gaming sites, Electronic Arts is preparing to announce recently retired Green Bay Packers quarterback and three-time MVP Brett Favre as the cover athlete for the upcoming Madden NFL 09, which is slated to hit store shelves on Aug. 12.
This is obviously the first time a retired player will grace the Madden cover, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Or maybe the folks at EA know something we don’t?
According to the Facebook site for Madden NFL 09, the cover athlete is expected to be announced on Friday. However, Favre is scheduled to be on the Late Show with David Letterman Thursday night. Why is that important? For the past few years, EA has used late-night shows to announce the Madden cover. Last year Jimmy Kimmel's show was used to announce Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young for Madden 08.
