Red Wings won’t have Franzen for Game 3
Brainiac . 11 May, 2008 13:43:00
Detroit forward Johan Franzen, who leads the NHL with 12 playoff goals, missed Saturday’s game against Dallas and also will miss Monday’s Game 3. Franzen is experiencing concussion-like symptoms and has had headaches about two weeks. "He is going to see a specialist on Monday," general manager Ken Holland said. "We believe he got hit in the Colorado series. Since the Colorado series, he's been having headaches.” “We’re not going to replace Franzen, that’s for sure,” said Dan Cleary, who took Franzen’s spot on a line with Valtteri Filppula and Mikael Samuelsson. “We just have to do the same things he does, and that’s get in the front and be strong on the puck. He’s such an ...
Alec Baldwin to run for office?
Brainiac . 11 May, 2008 13:38:16
The "30 Rock" star said he is considering getting into politics during an interview Sunday on "60 Minutes." One problem: Some people still well remember his tirade in which he called his daughter "a thoughtless little pig" on an answering machine “There's other things I want to do [besides acting]," Baldwin tells Morley Safer in an interview Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes." "I mean, in a matter of weeks, I'm going to be 50. There's no age limit on running for office, to a degree. Something I might do one day." Two years ago, the Long Island native told the New York Times Magazine he thought he would like to be governor of New York. ...
Suge Knight gets a beat down!
Brainiac . 11 May, 2008 11:23:55
Hip-hop mogul Suge Knight was hit so hard by a man on Saturday outside L.A.’s Shaq nightclub that he reportedly lost consciousness. According to TMZ.com, a witness saw Suge talking to a guy in a friendly manner but that it turned not so friendly quickly. Suge shouted, "I want my money!" Suge then rushed the guy with the help of his posse, and began hitting and kicking him. People outside the club broke up the fight, and as the man got up, he landed a right hook to Suge's face, knocking him out cold. Supposedly for nearly three minutes. Suge (real name: Marion Knight) was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police ...
Dennis Farina, a former cop, tries to bring gun on plane
Brainiac . 11 May, 2008 11:03:59
You would think Dennis Farina would know better considering one of his previous jobs. The actor was charged with a felony Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on luggage. When the weapon was discovered at a security checkpoint, the 64-year-old actor said he had forgotten the .22-caliber handgun was in his luggage, police said. Farina was booked for investigation of carrying a concealed weapon, said Sgt. Dennis Beacham. Bail was set at $25,000 before police discovered the weapon was not registered. Charges were upgraded to a felony, and he is now being held in lieu of $35,000 bail. Farina is a former Chicago policeman (for 20 years) who ...
Hornets vs. Spurs Game 4 preview
Brainiac . 10 May, 2008 03:18:00
The San Antonio Spurs showed the heart of a champion (cliché, I know) in beating the New Orleans Hornets in Game 3, but the reigning NBA champs need to do it again in Sunday night’s Game 4 to really make this Western Conference semifinal a series. San Antonio is a 6-point betting favorite at home for Game 4 with an over/under of 187.5 on WagerWeb.com. The Spurs seemed resigned to letting Chris Paul (and, to a lesser extent, David West) get his and clamp down on the other Hornets on Thursday. Taking the 15-for-25 shooting performance from Paul and the 10-19 showing from West out of the equation, the rest of the Hornets combined to connect on only 41 percent ...
Premier League: Manchester United-Wigan preview
Brainiac . 09 May, 2008 04:02:00
It’s pretty simple come Sunday for Manchester United: a victory over host Wigan means a record 10th Premier League title. It would be the time the Red Devils will have claimed back-to-back Premiership titles. And history is not on Wigan’s side: The Latics have never beaten a 'Big Four' club. Wigan, in fact, is the only club of those currently in the Premier League not to have taken one point off Manchester United. In the six meetings between Wigan and Manchester United, the combined score stands at 20-3. That’s bad news for Chelsea, which needs a Wigan victory or draw to have any hope of overtaking Man U. Although Chelsea’s slim hopes have improved a tad with the news that that ...
NASCAR Dodge Challenger 500 preview
Brainiac . 09 May, 2008 03:34:00
Expect plenty of speed in Saturday night’s NASCAR Dodge Challenger 500 at the “new Darlington.” Practice speeds have been off the charts at the recently-repaved 58-year-old facility, also known as the Lady in Black. "It's pretty much a brand new racetrack," said Elliott Sadler, a pole winner at Darlington in 2003. "It's a brand new car on a brand new surface, so everybody is just trying to figure out what they want, what they've got. I think everybody's pretty much fighting the same thing. Everybody's pretty tight. Track position is going to be important. It's going to be a pretty wild race." Bill Elliott, a former winner here, agrees. "It's not the same Darlington," Elliott said. "It's going to be ...
Lakers vs. Jazz Game 3 preview
Brainiac . 09 May, 2008 02:13:00
The Utah Jazz are well aware that teams down 2-0 in best-of-7 series in NBA history have rallied to win only 13 of those series. Utah was down 2-0 last year to San Antonio and eventually was ousted in five games. "We've been here before," forward Carlos Boozer said. "We've been down 0-2 before. What we have to do is come out and focus on Game 3." The Lakers have shut down Utah's attempts to get the pick-and-roll rolling and forced the Jazz into taking outside shots, which have not been falling. Utah has also rushed some attempts that led to either turnovers or missed shots that bounced right to the Lakers. The offensive blunders have created easy baskets for ...
HBO’s Hard Knocks to feature Cowboys (again) this year
Brainiac . 08 May, 2008 06:15:56
The NFL’s most popular team, the Dallas Cowboys, will be the featured club on HBO’s awesome series Hard Knocks this summer. I mean, who else could it be but the Cowboys? What with T.O., Pacman Jones, Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson and outspoken owner Jerry Jones. Oh, and they are a Super Bowl contender too! HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg already is predicting best-ever ratings for his five-show series. Even with the Olympics as competition, he's confident his weekly program will be overflowing with juicy story lines -- with his cameras getting exclusive behind-the-scenes access. "It's fair to say this thing should go through the roof," Greenburg said Wednesday. "I swear to you it's not going ...
Pulse pen: a do-it-all digital writing/transcribing aid
Brainiac . 08 May, 2008 05:48:00
I don’t know about you, but I love new electronic gizmos. Livescribe has introduced Pulse pen, which records audio and also digitizes whatever you're writing, while keeping track of what exactly you were listening to while writing. The pen's power is in letting you review written notes that are synchronized with audio. When you tap what you've scribbled or drawn on the special "dot paper" Pulse works with, you'll hear any audio you recorded while you were writing. You can search notes on your (Windows-only) PC by typing in a word and having Livescribe's software find a written match. Pulse also functions as a basic digital audio recorder. The Pulse is powered by a Samsung ...
