Take that.
Wake Forest made it quite clear that if you take what is rightfully theirs, they are going to smack you right in the mouth. The Demon Deacons will look to avoid a let down from a thrilling Wednesday home victory over the team that took over number one from them, Duke, when they face the floundering Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
The fourth-ranked Demon Deacons (17-1, 4-1) can not help but see similarities between last season and this, and it may possibly scare them. After a late season victory at home over Duke last season, Wake Forest saw its fortunes shift and finished the season in a funk. They do not want another huge victory over the Blue Devils to go to waste again.
After an upset home victory by Virginia Tech January 21st, the Demon Deacons had a full week to choke on the bitter taste of their first loss. But instead of folding, Wake Forest responded.
Wake Forest was firmly in control against Duke most of the game, but helplessly watched as the top team in the nation flex its muscles and erased a 13-point deficit to tie the game with just seconds to play. After a traveling call on a Duke player falling to the floor, Wake Forest regained possession and James Johnson swooped through the Blue Devils top ranked switching defense for a winning layout with .8 seconds left in the game.
To avoid a let down, Wake Forest must not let up on a Georgia Tech team looking for answers and victories.
The Yellow Jackets (9-10, 0-6) have lost five straight, including two tough losses to Boston College and North Carolina State, both decided in overtime. In their last game, they were blown out by Clemson, who ran away and hid in the second half, 73-59 and remained winless in the ACC this season.
Georgia Tech swept the season series last year and has won four of the last six contests overall over Wake Forest. The last two games between the teams played in Atlanta have gone into overtime, with each team claiming one of those games.
