The top of the ACC standings was probably not foretold for the Seminoles this year, but their rise to the top has been a very enjoyable one for Florida State fans nonetheless. Georgia Tech will look to keep its solid season going and try and make a late season move in the conference standing. However it will not be an easy task for the Yellow Jackets who have never beaten a Bobby Bowden-led Seminole team and have lost 12 straight contests in the series. The teams have not met since the 2003 season.
Last week against Virginia Tech, Florida State (6-1, 3-1) battled back from an early 10 point deficit to swing the 30-20 victory. Many of the Seminoles wins have been in this fashion, such as against North Carolina State, coming back from four in the fourth quarter and beating Miami in a seesaw game. Florida State will try and squash any hopes Georgia Tech may have early.
The Seminoles will have to rely on their running game once again as they will be missing wide receiver Corey Surrency. The junior was suspended for one game for disciplinary reasons. They will hope for a better performance than they achieved last week when they ran for a season low 89 yards.
Last week was even tougher for the Yellow Jackets as they dropped a game to their divisional leader Virginia. The 24-17 loss snapped Georgia Techs four game winning streak and took the team out of the Top 25.
Quarterback Josh Nesbitt had a shaky game with only 103 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Nesbitt did reach the end zone on foot, but it was not enough to get his team the victory, especially with fumbling twice and when his one interception came during the Jackets final drive which could have tied the score.
The Yellow Jackets last beat the Seminoles in 1975 in Atlanta, but have been bested in each game played since Florida State joined the ACC in 1992.
