There are teams fans love to hate and most fans believe that in order for a team to be hated, they must be successful. This is why so many people root against the Yankees, the Lakers and the Cowboys, because they are usually very good. They are the games in which teams get more ramped up to play and the fans get more excited to watch. In college football, perhaps there is no other team in which fans love to hate than the Miami Hurricanes. They have not been successful since they last reached the BCS title game after the 2002 season, but they have played well this season and have finally climbed back into the Top 25 for the first time since early in the 2006 season.

The Hurricanes (7-3, 4-2) are ranked 23rd, but know this could be fleeting if they can not beat Georgia Tech in their home stadium Thursday night. Tech themselves have spent much of the season in the polls, but a thrashing at North Carolina two weeks ago dropped them out.

It has been quite a turnaround for coach Randy Shannon and his Hurricanes. The team only mustered five wins a year before and suffered their worst season in 30 years. A win over the Yellow Jackets would give Miami their sixth straight and will move ever closer to winning the ACC Coastal Division title.

Georgia Tech (7-3, 4-3) also has eyes on that divisional prize, but a loss to Miami would officially put the end to those hopes, especially with the traditional season ending game at Georgia. Miami clearly has an easier road to the title as they face North Carolina State in their last regular season game. The Wolfpack are last in the Atlantic Division.

The Yellow Jackets defense has been stellar all season long, but has hit hard times in the last three games by giving up a combined 80 points. Georgia Tech has gone 1-2 in those three games. They also committed three turnovers against North Carolina. Georgia Techs defense, though, is struggling through its worst stretch of the season, allowing a total of 80 points en route to losing two of its last three games. The Yellow Jackets are also coming off their worst offensive showing, committing three turnovers against the Tar Heels.

Georgia Tech is looking to stretch their winning streak over Miami to four games. They own the series lead at 9-4. The Yellow Jackets beat the Hurricanes in the Orange Bowl last season 17-14. Miami last won in the series in 2004 in a game also played in Atlanta.
