Miami Hurricanes vs Duke Blue Devils

Article Posted by: Roger   November 19, 2009 - 11:21 am

The Miami Hurricanes once promising season is now in ruins after dropping their third conference game, they will look to get back on track and start looking toward bowl season when they take on a slumping Duke Blue Devils team Saturday afternoon from Miami.

Miami (7-3, 4-3) knew its fate was sealed before their game in North Carolina when they found out Georgia Tech had destroyed Duke (5-5, 3-3) to clinch the Coastal Division title. The Hurricanes could not make the best of the situation and dropped their contest with the Tar Heels, 33-24 later on.

The Hurricanes now know they have no shot at a BCS bowl or a chance at the ACC title and will be going to a lesser bowl game, but still look to stay perfect against the Blue Devils. Miami was once ranked as high as eighth, but have now toppled to 20th.

Sophomore Jacory Harris has had a tough season as he leads the Football Bowl Subdivision with 16 interceptions. Last week he threw a quarter of those, four interceptions against 319 yards and a touchdown.

As a freshman, Harris had one of his best games against Duke Blue Devils on the road. He threw for 185 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions and had another touchdown on the ground along with a career-high 53 rushing yards.

They face a greatly improved Duke team, but they have dropped two straight games putting their first bowl berth since 1995 in jeopardy. The Blue Devils were 4-8 last year and started 5-3 before losing their last two games to North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

The Blue Devils got out to a 10-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets came storming back. Thaddeus Lewis threw for 212 yards with a touchdown and interception. Lewis has struggled over the last couple of games after being unable to engineer a touchdown scoring drive in their hard-luck 19-6 loss to the Tar Heels the week before.
