Oklahoma Sooners vs Oklahoma State Cowboys

Article Posted at: November 26, 2009 - 11:19 am

The Oklahoma State Cowboys know there is no better time then to reset their rivalry with the Oklahoma Sooners then when they travel to Norman looking for their first win since 2001 and their first win in the series since 2002.

The Sooners (6-5, 4-3) are having an un-Oklahoma type season and the Cowboys (9-2, 6-1) are looking to snap an ugly six-game losing streak in the Bedlam rivalry and Oklahoma State is coming in the higher ranked team for once as the Cowboys are ranked 11th and the Oklahoma Sooners are unranked.

It marks the first time since 1997, and only the second time in history, that Oklahoma State has faced an unranked Oklahoma team.

Oklahoma State’s path is clear, beat Oklahoma on the road and have a shot at a BCS bowl game. Last season the Cowboys also face such a proposition in the game, but got knocked around at home, 61-41.

Quarterback Zac Robinson was part of the reason the Cowboys’ amassed so many points last year, but his status for this game is up in the air after seeing his 34 straight start streak snapped when he missed last week’s game, which was a nail-biter, 31-28 over the hapless Colorado Buffaloes.

Oklahoma is facing their worst season since Bob Stoops arrived on the scene and put the program back into national prominence, and in so doing, established a dominance over their in-state rival.

The disappointing campaign has brought about speculation that Stoops may be up for the Notre Dame job should Charley Weis get fired at the end of this season though Stoops has stated he is staying put, even after an ugly 41-13 loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders last week.

Despite the ho-hum season, Oklahoma is still perfect at home in five tries, have won 29 straight at home and have just one loss over the past 50 games at Owen Field.
