Phillip Fulmers swan song will take place this Saturday at Neyland Stadium as the Volunteers end their season and an era against Kentucky. Fulmer has been a mainstay in SEC football since his rise to head man in Knoxville in 1992. He leaves Tennessee after coaching in some capacity with the school since 1980. During his time as the Volunteer headman the program is 151-52 and won the 1998 National Championship. Tennessees pedestrian record, their performance against archrival Florida in recent years and this seasons lackluster performance all played a part in Fulmers dismissal earlier this season.

The Volunteers (4-7, 2-5) look to send Fulmer out a winner against a team that Fulmer has never lost to.  They will try to build off the success of beating in-state rival, one in which Fulmer also rarely lost to, Vanderbilt 20-10 last week. The road victory snapped a three game losing streak, including an inexcusable home loss to Wyoming three weeks ago. Kentucky is the perfect team for Fulmer to end his Tennessee coaching career by playing. The Wildcats have never been able to beat a Fulmer-lead Volunteers squad in 16 straight games.

Last season it went right down to the wire for Kentucky (6-5, 2-5). They were number eight at one point last season and went on to finish the season victorious in the Music City Bowl over Florida State. The Music City Bowl marked the first time that Kentucky went to back-to-back bowl games for the first time since the 1998 and 1999 seasons. If they can beat Tennessee Saturday and improve to 7-5, they could go to a bowl game again for a third straight season since coach Bear Bryant took them to three bowls following the 1949, 1950 and 1951 seasons.

If they lose again to a under .500 Tennessee team, they will have a tough task at getting to a bowl game, even at 6-6 and being bowl eligible in the talent-rich SEC.
