Texas Longhorns vs Kansas Jayhawks

Article Posted by: Roger   November 19, 2009 - 11:42 am

Most expect the NCAA championship to boil down to three teams. With about three weeks left in the regular season it appears the either Alabama or Florida will face Texas in the BCS title game. This does not mean upsets can not happen, which means the Texas Longhorns must continue to win.

The Longhorns (10-0, 6-0) face a sputtering Kansas Jayhawks (5-5, 1-5) team, both on and off the field, that has seen the bottom drop out of their season and given their recent track record do not figure to be a team capable of an upset of the third-ranked team in the nation.

While Texas stays on the road to the title game, they can clinch history along the way. Quarterback Colt McCoy can become the winningest quarterback in Division I-or Bowl Subdivision-history with a win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday from Austin. With the Longhorns’ 47-14 win over Baylor last week, McCoy earned his 42nd victory as a starter, tying him for most all-time with Georgia quarterback David Greene.

This honor was not in doubt last week as McCoy and the Longhorns got off to a 40 point lead at the break and won easily 47-14. McCoy earned 181 yards with two touchdowns in limited action as he sat for most of the second half of the blowout.

Kansas has never beaten Texas in Big 12 action and it does not look like this will happen this season either given the circumstances surrounding the program. The Jayhawks have lost five straight games and have had to address allegations about coach Mike Mangino, who is under internal investigation by the program for allegations of being abusive towards players.

Todd Reesing has cooled off during Kansas’ five-game losing streak, throwing for just five touchdowns after tossing 13 in their 5-0 start and may not get much relief against the Longhorns, who boast the nation’s top defense.
