San Jose, Costa Rica, Aug. 11, 2008 – The saga finally has come to an end, and the future Hall of Famer will still wear green next year – but that of the New York Jets, not the Packers. And you can bet on how No. 4 will fare in the Big Apple at Wagerweb.com

Favre immediately became the most famous New York Jet since Joe Namath, but he joins a team that is coming off a 4-12 season and averaged less than 17 points a game in 2007. But that club had middling starting quarterbacks in Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens. To boost the offense, the Jets added two top free agent offensive linemen, Alan Faneca and Damien Woody, in the offseason.

The 38-year-old Favre, meanwhile, is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. He had the best completion percentage of his career and fourth-best in the NFL (66.5) last season while also having the third-best average yards per completion (7.8). He had the sixth-best passer rating in the league at 95.7 (Favre’s best since 1995) and threw for 4,155 yards (more than all but three quarterbacks) and 28 touchdowns in leading the Packers to the NFC Championship Game.

When Favre takes the first snap on Week 1 against Miami, it will be his 254th consecutive start, by far an NFL record. The Jets have had 15 quarterbacks start in that stretch, so at least they know who their starter will be every week now. But Favre also will be competing in a much tougher conference than the NFC. Instead of getting the sad-sack Lions twice a year, for example, Favre will see the Patriots twice each year. Of course, there are always the Dolphins to beat up on twice.

Yet if you take a closer look at the strength of schedule between Green Bay and the Jets, it favors New York. The 2007 winning percentage for Gang Green’s opponents this season is .457, compared to .531 for the Packers’ opponents. And New York has only five games against teams that reached the playoffs last season (New England twice, San Diego, Tennessee and Seattle). So that last-place schedule should benefit Favre and Co.

Incidentally, Favre won’t return to Green Bay for a game unless he plays until he’s 45: New York isn’t scheduled to play at the Packers in the regular season until 2014.
