As hot as the Anaheim Ducks have been of late, they are still in second place within their division. After a slow start the Ducks have racked up eight wins in nine games and have accumulated the second most points in the Western Conference. Unfortunately their 19 is five short of the team in first place in their division, The San Jose Sharks.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Dallas Stars have lost two in a row and six of their last nine. The two teams will meet up in Anaheim tonight.
Anaheim (9-5-1) can certainly relate to the Stars struggles. Before starting to role, the Ducks could not buy a goal when they lost five of their first six games. Anaheim only tallied 13 goals during that streak, but have since scored 36 goals in their 8-0-1 stretch.
The last time out, the Ducks knocked the Blues around Honda Center en route to a 5-2 victory Wednesday night. Ryan Getzlaf starred with two goals and an assist, Corey Perry picked up two points and Chris Kunitz helped out with two assists. Getzlaf is the Ducks leading scorer with 18 points.
Anaheim hopes their offensive attack can continue against Dallas who is the Western Conferences worst defense by surrendering 50 goals. In the last four, in which the Stars have lost three, they have given up 16 goals. Usually stellar goalie Marty Turco has struggled this season and holds the unwanted distinction of having the worst goals-against average at 4.34 and worst save percentage at .837.
On their way to the Western Conference Finals last season, Dallas dominated the eight game series between their divisional rival Anaheim. They won the series five games to three. During those games, Anaheim was held to 14 goals, which will probably be a distant memory for the high flying Ducks offense and the sputtering Stars defense.
