A strange anomaly in the NHL schedule has kept two of the top Eastern Conference teams from facing off this season, but the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers will not have any other choice but to get acquainted to each other in the next few weeks, particularly this week as they will face each other twice in the next four days, starting tonight in Philadelphia.

The teams have split the last 12 games since 2005-2006, but Boston has held the advantage at the Wachovia Center, going 4-1-1 in their last six trips into the Philadelphia venue. Last season the Flyers claimed the first game of the four-game season series, but then dropped each of the next three. Last seasons series was notable for the 156 penalty minutes the two teams took against each other. Perhaps the ill will stemmed from the horrendous hit the Bruins Patrice Bergeron took from the Flyers Randy Jones which left Bergeron out for the season.

The special teams of both clubs could once again be on display when the two clubs face each other this week. The Flyers (26-14-9) are among the most penalty-prone teams this season with 938 minutes in the box.

Boston (37-8-6) is the best team in the league, as they have been for much of the season. Their 80 points are three better than the Wests best Sharks. Philadelphia trails Boston by 19 points and is currently in the sixth playoff spot in the East.

Boston comes into Wednesdays contest firing on all cylinders. They are 8-1-2 in their last 11, including a Sunday 3-1 road victory in Montreal, the Bruins ninth road win in 10 games.

Philly has not been as steady, losing two of their last three, including their second shutout loss of the season, 4-0 in St. Louis on Saturday night. They Flyers struggles against the Blues were largely due to their inability to score on a power play. Philadelphia was 0-for -a staggering 11 power play opportunities.
