The Red Wings are suffering through their roughest patch of the season, but will look to a familiar foe to get back on track. The Stars will visit Detroit to take on the Wings Thursday night at the Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit (31-9-7) has lost three straight games and four of the last six. In their first game after the All-Star break, the Wings lost the final game of their season-longest six-game road trip in overtime to Columbus 3-2. Even though Dallas holds a 2-1 edge in the season series, they can never seem to win in Detroit. But then again, no one else seems to either.

The Red Wings have won seven straight on home ice, including a 6-1 drubbing of Dallas there on January 8th. The Stars (21-18-7) have won only three of its past 15 games in Detroit, including the postseason. Dallas won in Game 5 of the conference finals last spring, before dropping Game 6 in Dallas.

Detroit has dropped both games in Dallas this season, including the first stop on their six-game road trip, 5-4 on January 12th. Including that game and since it, the Red Wings have allowed an average of 3.83 goals per game.

Home cooking should be good for the Red Wings though. During their seven-game winning streak, Detroit has allowed a total of seven goals. They are 16-3-2 at home.

In their first game following the All-Star break Dallas came out with a solid 2-0 home victory over Atlanta. Marty Turco recorded his 35th career shutout and hopes the magic of Tuesday night’s victory will carry over to Thursday’s game against a team he has never played well against. Turco has never won a regular season game at Joe Louis Arena, is 0-8-0 with a 3.36 goals against average in 11 games there.

The Stars have struggled a lot this year as they try to build on their appearance in the Western Conference Finals last spring. They have averaged over 100 points for five seasons and has made the playoffs each year. As it stands right now, the Stars are in 11th place and would miss out on the postseason if the playoffs started today.

A victory over Detroit would give Dallas their first three game winning streak this season.
