The Ducks are not fans of Joe Louis Arena to be sure. Things need to turn around quickly for Anaheim or they will miss the playoffs. Unfortunately if they want to turn around things right way, they will have to do it in Detroit where they have won only three times in their 15-year history. The teams face-off Friday night.

Joe Louis woes aside, the Ducks (28-26-5) have to solve their road woes as well because their trip to Detroit is merely their first of a six-game trip that will take them to other tough places such as Chicago, Columbus, Dallas and Boston.

The Ducks look to avoid losing three straight games against the Red Wings in Detroit, where they are 3-20-3 lifetime in the regular season. They have gone 1-8-2 there in their last 11.

The Ducks rode into Detroit on a four-game winning streak and saw that snapped 2-1 on December 1st. Since then Anaheim has gone 14-18-1 and have fallen out of a playoff spot and have not won more than two games in arrow during the stretch. The skid has a lot to do with their inability to win on the road, where they have gone 6-11-1 in their last 18 road games.

Not that home games have been cake for Anaheim either. They lost their last two at home, giving up 12 goals in back-to-back losses to Los Angeles and Atlanta. This does not bode well for a Red Wings team firing on all cylinders offensively.

Detroit (38-12-8) is trailing San Jose for the Western lead by a point and stayed on the tale of the Sharks with a 6-2 home thrashing of Nashville on Wednesday. Johan Franzen returned to the lineup after missing two games with a bruised hand and scored two goals and an assist. Jiri Hudler also had a goal and an assist and has recorded at least a point in five straight games.

The Red Wings have weathered a tough streak to end January to go 7-1-1 since. They have averaged 4.6 goals per game during that stretch and lead the league with 221 goals.
