The were once considered the hottest team in the NHL. This may not be the case anymore after they lost five out of six in a stretch of games from November 7 until November 21, but if they continue on the path they have been on in the last three games, they may once again recapture that title.

The Ducks (13-8-3) have now won three straight, which is a good thing considering who is ahead of Anaheim in the standings. San Jose leads the entire league in wins (19) and points (39). During the Ducks hot stretch, in which they lost once in eight games, they were able to keep pace with the red hot Sharks. But their skid cost them a lot in the standings. The Sharks have now opened up a 10 point lead in the standings.

Anaheim only scored one goal in their last contest, but it was still enough to win. The Ducks defeated the Blackhawks at home 1-0 Friday night. Jonas Hiller made 26 saves and recorded his second shutout of the season and ran his record to 5-1-1 for the season. Hiller was playing for Jean-Sabastien Giguere who is listed as day-to-day with personal issues. Ryan Getzlaf netted the lone goal of the contest for his ninth goal and 28th point of the season.

Carolina (12-10-2) has struggled lately but was able to get a victory in their last contest. The Hurricanes defeated the Flyers 3-2 in overtime in Philadelphia Friday night. The game was the second of a home-and-home series and snapped Carolina’s three game losing streak. Sergei Samsonov was the hero of the night for the Hurricanes as he scored his second goal of the season at the 3:53 mark of overtime. Cam Ward made 24 saves to record his eighth victory of the season against seven losses and two overtime/shootout losses.

The teams will meet for the second time this season, once again in Carolina. The Hurricanes won the first contest 3-1.
