Plant High School quarterback Aaron Murray announced on Thursday that he was committing to Georgia over Florida.
He said he chose the Bulldogs because of Georgia head coach Mark Richt's experience as a former college quarterback with Miami.
Murray is expected to enroll at Georgia early in January 2009.
Murray had received 56 scholarship offers from Division I schools including Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame and LSU. In recent weeks, he took unofficial visits to Georgia, Florida and UCLA.
One of the top passers in the nation, Murray set a state record last season with 51 touchdown passes. He’s garnered national accolades such as his selection as the first quarterback for the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp and the Army All-American Bowl Game.
Murray is the second top prep quarterback out of the Tampa-area school in two years. Former Plant QB Robert Marve is expected to start this season for the Miami Hurricanes after redshirting last season.
