Former Seffner Armwood All-American lineman and current Florida Gator defensive lineman Matt Patchan, was shot in the back/shoulder Friday night while a bystander at Sadie Park outside of Tampa, Armwood coach Sean Callahan confirmed Monday morning. Callahan said he has since talked to Patchan and added that "he's fine." "I don't know what he was doing there or why they were there," Callahan said. "I don't know all the details. I just know he went to the Brandon hospital. They left (the bullet) in. It's not serious. It's in the soft tissue." Reached by phone Monday morning, Patchan declined to comment. Florida coach Urban Meyer issued a statement Monday morning, also confirming that Patchan was shot, ...
UCLA loses starting QB and No. 2
Brainiac . 27 April, 2008 11:41:57
A few weeks ago, new UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said that Patrick Cowan had the upper hand to win the Bruins’s starting QB job. That’s no longer the case as Cowan will undergo surgery on the ACL in his left knee and will miss the entire season. "All I know is I need the surgery and I'm not going to be able to play next season," Cowan told reporters Saturday. In addition, presumed No. 2 Ben Olson also was hurt in practice last week. His foot injury will require doctors to put a screw into his foot to help it heal, and will keep him out six to eight weeks. In practice Thursday, Cowan and Olson ...
Top prep QB makes his commitment
Brainiac . 24 April, 2008 04:18:47
Plant High School quarterback Aaron Murray announced on Thursday that he was committing to Georgia over Florida. He said he chose the Bulldogs because of Georgia head coach Mark Richt's experience as a former college quarterback with Miami. Murray is expected to enroll at Georgia early in January 2009. Murray had received 56 scholarship offers from Division I schools including Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame and LSU. In recent weeks, he took unofficial visits to Georgia, Florida and UCLA. One of the top passers in the nation, Murray set a state record last season with 51 touchdown passes. He’s garnered national accolades such as his selection as the first quarterback for the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp ...
Another FSU football player in trouble (big surprise!)
Brainiac . 22 April, 2008 06:14:17
Florida State officials said they will have an announcement soon on the future of standout receiver Preston Parker after the athlete's arrest in South Florida on drug and weapons charges. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Parker was arrested early Tuesday on charges of carrying a concealed .45-caliber handgun and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. Parker was named Florida State's most valuable player last season after leading the team with 1,513 all-purpose yards and 62 receptions. "We are aware of Preston's arrest and are gathering the facts of the situation," Florida State athletic director Randy Spetman said in a statement. "We have an Athletics Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy in place for all ...
UCLA already settles on 2008 QB
Brainiac . 13 April, 2008 07:39:35
New UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel and offensive coordinator Norm Chow have settled on Patrick Cowan as the Bruins' signal caller over Ben Olson for next season. Cowan took all the snaps with the No. 1 offensive unit during the Bruins' first scrimmage Saturday. He completed seven of 11 passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns. In his two seasons at UCLA, Cowan has thrown for 15 career TDs and 11 interceptions. "We're giving Pat the first chance," Neuheisel told the Los Angeles Daily News. "We haven't made any decisions yet. We're just trying to see where it goes from there. If it gets to a position where we have to switch it over, then we have ...
LSU’s Perrilloux back on team, will visit White House
Brainiac . 06 April, 2008 11:34:07
LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux missed Saturday's spring game but is back as a member of the team. University spokesman Michael Bonnette said Friday that Perrilloux will accompany the team Monday to the White House to accept congratulations from President Bush for the national championship. Coach Les Miles suspended Perrilloux in mid-February after he missed a team meeting, skipped some classes and was late for a handful of conditioning workouts. Perrilloux had to meet academic requirements, as well as do extra conditioning work. He should remain the starter provided he does not become involved in any more off-field issues. Quarterbacks Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch, dueling for the No. 2 spot, were called upon to limit mistakes and ...
Hokies will miss RB Brandon Ore
Brainiac . 23 March, 2008 13:19:12
Big loss for the Virginia Tech football team as star running back Branden Ore has been dismissed from the team. Ore would have been a redshirt senior. On his Facebook profile he said he was "making life decisions right now." In January, a federal jury convicted one of Ore's friends of possessing crack cocaine with intent to distribute. Prosecutors subpoenaed Ore, who was riding in a car with Tony Majette of Christiansburg in June 2006 when police stopped them and found two bags of drugs in the car. Ore was not charged. Ore led the Hokies in rushing with 992 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was an all-Atlantic Coast Conference pick as a sophomore in 2006, rushing ...
Terrelle Pryor finally chooses ...
Brainiac . 19 March, 2008 04:19:47
All-America quarterback Terrelle Pryor, the nation's top college football prospect, ended his prolonged recruitment Wednesday by announcing he will sign with Ohio State. Pryor unzipped a jacket to reveal a white OSU T-shirt and put on a black Buckeyes hat during a press conference from his high school. Pryor (6-6, 225) is the Parade and U.S. Army All-American Bowl national Player of the Year. The sky's the limit to athleticism," said Tom Luginbill, the national football recruiting coordinator for Scouts, Inc. "He draws comparisons to Vince Young who can save a play on the run and has the ability to improvise." The two-time Pennsylvania player-of-the-year chose Ohio State over Oregon, Penn State and Michigan. But it ...
Georgia football team loses potential starter for year
Brainiac . 18 March, 2008 07:21:18
Georgia, which very well could be the preseason No. 1 football team in the land come fall, has lost a key defensive player for the season already. Linebacker Marcus Washington, who started six games for the Bulldogs in 2007, said he will undergo shoulder surgery and expects to miss the 2008 season. Washington, a senior, said he will undergo surgery on his left shoulder in the next couple of weeks, with a recovery time estimated at six months. The 6-foot, 250-pound middle linebacker, listed second on the depth chart behind Dannell Ellerbee, suffered a left shoulder injury on the Bulldogs' last day of practice before spring break, and it will likely cause him to take a redshirt ...
Terrelle Pryor to make decision this week
Brainiac . 16 March, 2008 10:33:00
The Terrelle Pryor saga is almost over. The nation’s top-ranked football recruit says he will announce which school he will attend this fall this week. “I’m gonna say the school I’m going to, sign it, and get it over with,” Pryor said. Pryor’s list, which was pared down to Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon last month, is now “down to two schools,” he said. But he won’t say which two. This came after Pryor 23 points and eight rebounds to lead Jeannette (Pa.) High to a 76-72 overtime victory over Strawberry Mansion in the PIAA Class AA title game. At a news conference last month, Pryor said he had felt ...
