HBO’s Hard Knocks to feature Cowboys (again) this year

image
The NFL’s most popular team, the Dallas Cowboys, will be the featured club on HBO’s awesome series Hard Knocks this summer. I mean, who else could it be but the Cowboys? What with T.O., Pacman Jones, Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson and outspoken owner Jerry Jones. Oh, and they are a Super Bowl contender too! HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg already is predicting best-ever ratings for his five-show series. Even with the Olympics as competition, he's confident his weekly program will be overflowing with juicy story lines -- with his cameras getting exclusive behind-the-scenes access. "It's fair to say this thing should go through the roof," Greenburg said Wednesday. "I swear to you it's not going ...

Cedric Benson says cops lied

image
Which Cedric Benson did Texas police arrest this weekend? Was it the contrite, polite guy who didn’t resist anything or the cocky, rich athlete who insulted the authorities? That may be for a jury to decide. Benson, the Bears’ running back, says he will fight charges of drunken boating and resisting arrest, denying any wrongdoing. Police said Benson failed a sobriety test on his 37-foot yacht, argued over taking a follow-up test on land and refused to wear a life jacket. But Benson said  the boat was stationary and while there was alcohol on board he was not intoxicated when police questioned him for the sixth time in the past year. "There was ...

Cedric Benson arrested

Bears running back Cedric Benson was arrested late Saturday night near Austin, Texas, and charged with boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest, both Class B misdemeanors. According to a sergeant from the Travis County Sheriff's office, Benson, who played at the University of Texas in Austin, was arrested by the Lower Colorado River Authority. A LCRA spokesperson said that Benson, who failed a sobriety "float test" (an abbreviated version of a field sobriety test) on the boat, argued over taking a follow-up test on land and refused to put on a life jacket. LCRA police attempted to arrest Benson at that time but he refused to cooperate and was pepper sprayed. He was booked at 11:24 p.m. Saturday and ...

Army safety won't have to serve now!

image
Think anyone is happier about his being picked in the NFL draft today than Army safety Caleb Campbell? You see, because of a new rule from the Army that says its recruits can serve as recruiters if they are in high-profile positions (i.e. the NFL), they don’t have to go on active duty. And in Sunday’s seventh round, the Lions took Campbell. The entire draft crowd erupted at Radio City Music Hall, which is very classy. For what it’s worth, Lions coach Rod Marinelli is an Army veteran - wonder if that’s a coincidence?Click here for more NFL

And the first pick in the NFL draft is ... Jake Long

image
It’s official, the Rams are on the clock. The Miami Dolphins have signed Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long to a multiyear contract and will select him with the No. 1 overall pick in Saturday's draft. The contract is for five years and $57.75 million, with $30 million guaranteed. That total package is about $4 million less than last year’s No. 1, Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell. Long, a 6-foot-7, 313-pound senior who moved to left tackle in 2006 and started his final 26 games, was an All-America selection and Big Ten lineman of the year in each of his past two seasons. “Jake was our guy from the beginning,'' GM Jeff Ireland said. ``I don't make it ...

Redskins turned down in trade for Chad Johnson

image
Not sure what the Cinicnnati Bengals are thinking! Of course, what’s new with that? According to the Washington Post, lague sources said last Thursday that the Redskins made another offer to the Cincinnati Bengals for disgruntled Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson, offering Cincinnati first- and third-round picks in this weekend's draft for Johnson. In addition, the Redskins are prepared to guarantee Johnson about $21 million as part of a new contract. But the Bengals aren’t giving in to Ocho Cinco’s demands. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis -- who disputed the report of trade offers for Johnson -- says the disgruntled receiver should keep his word and sit out the season. "I've stated our case with ...
