G Howard rejoins Red Wings

Goaltender Jimmy Howard rejoined the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
Howard missed Tuesdays game to be with his wife following the birth of their child.
The Red Wings have lost their last two games by a combined 11-2 after opening the season with five straight wins. Ty Conklin started the past two games.
Howard is expected to be back in net for Fridays game against the San Jose Sharks.

Blue Jackets D Wisniewski to debut vs Red Wings

After serving an eight-game suspension, Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski will make his debut in Tuesdays game against the Central Division-rival Detroit Red Wings.
The Blue Jackets failed to win one game without the 27-year-old Wisniewski, who was suspended after hitting Minnesotas Cal Clutterbuck in the head during a preseason contest.
Signed to a six-year deal worth $33 million in the summer, Wisniewski split last season with the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders. He collected 10 goals and 41 assists in 75 games.

Red Wings D Lidstrom to play in 1500th game

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom says his goal was to play in 1,000 NHL games over the course of his career.

Saturday night, hell officially surpass expectations by 50 per cent.

The future Hall of Famer will suit up for career game No. 1,500 Saturday night as he leads the Red Wings into a marquee battle with the Washington Capitals. Detroit (5-0-0) and Washington (6-0-0) are the only remaining unbeaten team.

Lidstrom will become the 14th player in league history to reach 1,500 games played. Hes just the third to reach the milestone with one team – and ironically enough, the other two (Alex Delvecchio, Steve Yzerman) also did so with the Red Wings.

“It means a lot,” said Lidstrom. “One thousand games was a milestone I
wanted to reach, and 1,500 was never on my mind. Time has been flying
and games have been adding up.”

Lidstrom is one of the best defenseman in NHL history, having won six Norris Trophies and four Stanley Cup championships.

He has two goals and an assist in five games so far this season.

Red Wings push back start time vs Canucks in deference to ALCS

The Detroit Red Wings pushed back the start of Thursdays game against the Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks an additional 30 minutes on Wednesday.

Thursdays game will begin at 8 p.m., rather than 7:30 p.m.

The move is being made so Detroit fans can watch their Tigers host Game 5 of the American League Championship Series against the Texas Rangers at Comerica Park.

That contest is scheduled for a 4:19 p.m. start.

Texas dropped a 5-2 decision in Game 3, but still holds a 2-1 advantage in the ALCS.
Game 4 is on Wednesday afternoon.
