Instant reaction to the early NBA odds and betting results for the 2019-20 season | News Article by Inspin.com

The 2019-20 NBA season is still fresh out of the package, but basketball bettors are already picking up on some interesting betting edges and angles in the opening week on the best online betting sites. If you’re betting on the NBA odds, keep an eye on these best bets.

Brooklyn’s Finest
The Brooklyn Nets made a big splash in free agency, not only landing Kyrie Irving but also adding Kevin Durant. While Durant will miss the entire season recovering from an Achilles injury, Irving has flourish in his first few games with the Nets.

He dropped 50 points in an opening night loss to Minnesota and then scored 26 points – including the game-winning bucket – in a 4-point win over the rival New York Knicks. Brooklyn failed to cover the spread in both games, but Irving has shot up the MVP betting board. He entered the season at 60/1 odds to win NBA MVP and has now seen that price nearly chopped in half at many sportsbooks.

Irving is playing without pressure in Brooklyn, knowing that expectations are tempered until Durant arrives. The former Duke standout has played among fellow superstars in recent years with Cleveland and Boston but has a chance to be the focal point of the offense for the Nets – a role he hasn’t enjoyed since his first two years in the league.

Slow starts
Heading into the weekend, the first four night of NBA betting have brought profits for Under bettors. So far, the 2019-20 schedule has produced a 10-15 Over/Under count – playing below the betting totals at a 60% rate to start the season.

So far, NBA games are averaging 219.6 points on the scoreboard – a downtick from the 222.4 points per game average in the 2018-19 season. NBA team are shooting more 3-point attempts than ever before, with an average of 65.8 shots from beyond the arc through the early days of the schedule, and team connecting on those outside looks at a 35.2% success rate.

Overall, field goal percentage is the lowest its been since the 2002-03 season at 44.2%. However, with the amount of player movement across the league and teams working in new faces, coaches and playbooks, that offensive production should improve. Basketball bettors should blindly bet Unders based on these very early and limited results.

Clippers are for real
The Los Angeles Clippers entered the season as the top favorite to win the NBA Championship after adding MVP-calibre talents like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to an already deep and talented roster. While George will miss the first month of the season recovering from offseason surgery, Leonard has lifted the Clippers through the opening two games of the season.

Los Angeles was tested early, tipping off the 2019-20 campaign with a showdown against the rival Lakers – who also added more talent with Anthony Davis now playing next to LeBron James – and a matchup with the Western Conference gatekeepers, the Golden State Warriors.

The Clippers dominated both games, winning those games by a combined 29 points and easily covering the NBA pointspreads as favorites. Los Angeles will continue to see sizable spreads but with a defense that could be among the best of all-time, there’s no reason to doubt L.A. ability to cash in – especially once George makes his Hollywood debut.
