LSU Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide (-6)
Superiority in the SEC and the inside track to the College Football Playoffs are on the line in Tuscaloosa Saturday when the Crimson Tide tangle with the Tigers. Both programs bring unblemished records into this Week 11 war, and both boast Heisman Trophy contenders at quarterback.
Joe Burrow leads the LSU passing offense, which has been a surprise for a team usually rooted in the run game and defense. The Tigers are averaging almost 378 yards passing per game – No. 2 in the nation – which has sparked a scoring attack posting nearly 47 points an outing.
Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is hoping some down time and a bye week can heal his injured ankle. With the standout passer on the sideline, the Tide blew past Arkansas 48-7 with Mac Jones taking the bulk of snaps. However, if Tagovailoa is unable to play, Alabama will be leaning heavily on its defense to shut down LSU. The Bama stop unit is allowing just over 15 points on 308 yards against per game.
Penn State Nittany Lions at Minnesota Golden Gophers (+6.5)
A battle in the Big Ten gets Saturday started on a bang, with Penn State visiting Minnesota for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff. At 8-0 both programs are vying for a spot in the conference title game, however, the Golden Gophers get to avoid Ohio State with the Nittany Lions do not.
Minnesota has been a bit of a surprise in the Big Ten, but hasn’t truly been tested during a soft slate of games in 2019. The Golden Gophers are banking on their defense to slow down the PSU attack, ranked 13th in average yards allowed and watching opponents crack the scoreboard for just 20 points per game.
Penn State is coming off two impressive wins over Michigan and Michigan State, scoring 28 points in each outing. The Nittany Lions have the second-ranked rushing defense in the country, at only 69 yards allowed per game, which matches up well against a Minnesota ground game that has some inflated results due to the weaker schedule.
Kansas State Wildcats at Texas Longhorns
While a spot in the College Football Playoffs is out of reach for these programs, there’s still plenty to play for in Austin Saturday. The Longhorns have five wins and need that sixth to become bowl eligible while the Wildcats have momentum rolling and could challenge for a ticket to the Big 12 title game if they continue to win out.
Kansas State has won three in a row since dropping back-to-back games in Weeks 5 and 6. The Wildcats offense, which stumbled in those losses, has picked up the pace, averaging 36.7 points on 393.7 yards per game during this winning run.
Texas is desperate for a victory after going 1-2 in its last three contests, including a loss to Texas Christian last time out. The Horns have been hindered by poor defense, giving up an average of 505 yards against during this skid which have bled over to the scoreboard, in the form of 39.7 points allowed over those three games.
