Baltimore Ravens (12-4) vs. New England Patriots (13-3)
After an ugly win over the Texans last week, Joe Flacco and the second seeded Baltimore Ravens will meet Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Sunday’s 2012 AFC championship game.
The match will be just the eighth meeting ever between the two franchises. The Pats, top ranked team in the AFC, did not play the Ravens this season. The last time the two teams met in the regular season was in 2010, when New England scored a tight 23-20 overtime victory.
The game will feature a strength-on-strength pulse when the Patriots’ high-powered offense clash against Baltimore’s hard-hitting defense. The Patriots currently hold the second ranked offense in the league, and the Ravens’ defense ranks third.
Tom Brady, who owns a 15-5 postseason record, is 78-13 at home in his career and was a key in the 45-10 playoff game vs. the Broncos last Saturday. The Patriots will enter the game holding a respectable 13-3 season and the second best record in the NFL, but despite the team’s successful performance and Brady’s league-leading record of 39 TD, New England is 0-1 against AFC North teams this season.
Baltimore completed a 12-4 regular season, finishing second in the conference. But compared to Brady’s record, Baltimore’s Joe Flacco is anything but impressive. Flacco has just six touchdowns and seven interceptions in eight postseason games, plus a completion percentage of 53.1 and an average of 153.3 passing yards per game. Based on Flacco’s record, is not hard to figure why the Ravens depend so much on their defensive team.
New England's 45-10 win over the Broncos was impressive enough to list the Patriots as 7 point favorite to win this game. But while New England has never lost a game vs. the Ravens in the regular season (6-0), the Patriots lost their only postseason meeting (33-14) two years ago at the Gillette Stadium.
