Columbus Blue Jackets center Jeff Carter will not play against his former team this weekend.
Carter suffered a broken foot while blocking a shot against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 15. The 26-year-old Carter admitted to the Columbus Dispatch that he is simply not ready to return to the ice for Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
I haven't even skated since it happened, Carter told the newspaper. I have a lot of good friends there, players and staff. It'll be good to see them. I wish I was playing against them. But I'm not going to rush back and risk something just to play in Philadelphia.
Carter is still searching for his first goal with his new team since being traded from the Flyers in June.
The 11th overall pick of the 2003 draft, Carter was acquired in a trade that saw forward Jakub Voracek and two draft picks go back to Philadelphia.
Carter collected 36 goals, 30 assists and 39 penalty minutes in 80 games last season. This season, he has three assists in five contests.
