After a grueling season full of guts, glory and insane football action, the New England Patriots and the New York Giants have sealed their tickets to the biggest sporting event in the country: Superbowl XLVI.
The lines have been drawn and sportsbooks everywhere have released their NFL odds for this epic game.
And while it isn’t the first time these two meet (who can forget Superbowl XLII where the Giants pulled one of the biggest upsets in NFL history), this is quite a different game when it comes to betting…that’s if you want to win any money.
Back in 2007, the game opened Patriots -11. Sharp money hammered away at the Pats driving the game up to as high as -14. It closed -13 and we all know the rest of the story.
Now for the rematch… Inspin.com sponsor WagerWeb has opened the line Patriots -3.5 and the total at 56. Where has the money gone? Did sharp and square bettors hammer away on New England expecting them to take revenge for times past?
Not quite…Sharp money bet the Giants +3.5-110 almost immediately after the opening line was posted; the line then dropped to -3 dog -120 (that means a bet on the Giants at +3 will cost -120 or $120 to win $100).
Bookmakers expect the GIANTS to be the sharp side.
What about the total?
Wagerweb.com opened the total at over/under 56-110. A little UNDER sharp money dropped the game to 55.5 and then 55, before it crept back up earlier today to 55.5 and settled in.
The public, otherwise known as squares, have not started betting this game as of yet. I can’t give you accurate betting percentages until more money has been played, but you should check back often because we’ll have full game coverage and analysis leading up to game day.
Just ‘cause we care...
