The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Virginia Tech Hokies will both be seeking a win on Thursday when they meet at Cassell Coliseum.
No. 8 North Carolina (15-3) lost 90-57 its last match on the road against Florida State, despite being the 6.5- point favorites. The loss at Florida State snapped a nine-game winning streak since the Tar Heels' 73-72 loss to then-No. 1 Kentucky.
North Carolina has won eight of 11 matches against Virginia Tech since the Hokies joined the ACC in the 2004-05 season.
The Tar Heels have won six of the past seven games and 24 of the past 27 and are listed as 7-point favorites for this game. They are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Virginia Tech also lost its last match 61-59 on the road against Boston College. The Hokies, on a six-game winning streak going into conference play, are now on a three game slump. All three losses - at Wake Forest and Boston College and home against Florida State - have been by four points or less, being the kind of games that they should have won if they want to avoid missing the NCAA Basketball Tournament again.
The Hokies are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games; leading scorer Erick Green (16.1 points), is expected to return from a knee injury which would help them against the Tar Heels and with their trip to No. 17 Virginia later this week.
Betting Value: the Over is 5-1 in the Tar Heels’ last 6 games as a road favorite. The Inspin Simulator calculated the total at 146.5, bet the over at 143 -110 or better and take it to the bank.
