Date/Time: Wednesday, Feb 8th, 7:10 PM ET, Verizon Center, Washington, District of Columbia
Game Overview:
The New York Knicks will visit the Verizon Center in District of Columbia this Wednesday night as they try to expand their winning streak vs. the Washington Wizards. New York will miss two of its key players for tonight’s game. Forward Carmelo Anthony will miss the next one to two weeks with a strained right groin. The five-time All-Star suffered an injury in the first quarter of Monday night's 99-88 victory over the Utah Jazz, when he got hurt right before throwing a pass to Tyson Chandler.
The Knicks will also be without Amare Stoudemire, as he wanted to continue spending time with his family. Stoudemire’s older brother died in a car accident early Monday morning in Florida, and is not clear when he would return. Despite the injuries, the Knicks will look to achieve their third consecutive victory under the guidance of Jeremy Lin. Second-year guard Lin has led the Knicks to back-to-back victories with 26.5 points and 7.5 assists per game. Lin scored 25 points on Saturday against the Nets, and reached a career-high record of 28 points and 8 assists vs. the Jazz.
New York, though, is just 10-15 this season and 4-8 on the road. The Knicks will return to the Madison Square Garden to face the Lakers on Friday before hitting the road again to visit the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Toronto Raptors.
Washington will enter the game carrying a bit of momentum after snapping a four-game skid last Monday with an overtime victory over the Raptors. John Wall scored a game-high 31 points and was a key piece in the Wizards’ 111-108 win. The victory was the first in five games for the Wizards, who lost to the Knicks 99-96 back in January 6th in D.C. The Knicks have won seven straight games vs. Washington and 11 of the last 13 matches. Currently, Washington resides near the bottom of the Eastern Conference at 5-20.
