NCAA Basketball Game Preview: Indiana Hoosiers (15-3) vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-8)
By Inspin.com on Jan 18, 2012

Indiana Hoosiers

Date/Time: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 7:00 pm, Bob Devaney Sports Center, Lincoln, Nebraska

The 11th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (15-3, 3-3) will make its first trip to Lincoln since December 30th, 1942, to meet the Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-8, 1-5) in a Big Ten Conference match set to take place tonight at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

After dropping four spots in the NCAA Basketball rankings the 11th-ranked Hoosiers desperately need a win against the Cornhuskers. In recent weeks, the Hoosiers suffered their first losing streak of the season, which includes a 77-74 home loss to Minnesota and an 80-63 defeat vs. Ohio State on Sunday. Currently, the Hoosiers are 12-0 outside the Big Ten and 3-3 when playing vs a BT team.

Nebraska, tied with the Nittany Lions at the bottom of the conference, is having some problems adapting to the Big Ten play. So far, Nebraska has lost five of its first six league encounters, losing 59-54 at Illinois, 71-40 at Ohio State, 68-55 at home to Michigan State and falling again vs. Wisconsin last Sunday. Nebraska has achieved only one victory vs. Big Ten teams, and that was a 70-58 win at home against Penn State on January 11th.  Additionally, the team has been outscored by an average of 22.7 points and is 0-3 versus Top 25 teams this season.

While both teams have not met since 1982, Indiana holds an 8-1 lead vs. Nebraska in the history of these two teams, including 4-1 all-time in Lincoln. The only loss in their record came in February 6th, 1920, when the Hoosiers loss 38-18 to the Cornhuskers, only one day after beating Nebraska 24-20.

Game Odds:

Indiana Hoosiers: -3 -105, ML -155
Nebraska Cornhuskers: +3 -115, ML +135
Game Total: 131 O/U -110

About Indiana (15-3, 3-3): Even though the Hoosiers have the best-shooting and highest-scoring records in the conference (49.7%, 80.8 points per game), the team had serious problems during their two-game slide, mainly due to their inaccuracy from the 3-point line. After hitting 47.6% beyond the line in its first 16 games, Indiana scored only 11 of 39 shots (28.2%) from the 3-point line during the last two games.

About Nebraska (9-8, 1-5): The Huskers’ lack of aggressiveness on the offensive end cost them the game vs. Wisconsin. They attempted just two free throws, the lowest mark for a Doc Sadler team in his six seasons and third time in conference play the team attempted less than 10 free throws in a game. In addition, the team is shooting just 38.4% from the field in Big Ten play but is currently leading the conference in free throw percentage (75.5%).

Additional game Info:

1. The Hoosiers’ next Big Ten win will surpass last season’s conference win total and match the four such victories they had during the 2009-10 season.
2. Nebraska is 2-6 this season when it attempts fewer than 18 free throws.
3. Indiana’s Jordan Hulls is second in the Big Ten and sixth in the nation in 3-point shooting this season (52.6 percent).
