Game Overview: The Kentucky Wildcats (23-1, 9-0), the top College Basketball team in the weekly Associated Press NCAA basketball poll for a third straight week, will visit No. 7 Florida Gators (19-4, 7-1) this Tuesday night for a high voltage game pitting the best two teams in the SEC.
The Wildcats have reeled off 15 consecutive wins since losing at Indiana Dec. 10th, and currently hold the second-longest winning streak in Division I behind unbeaten Murray State (23-0). Kentucky is also in first place in the SEC standings with a perfect 9-0 record in league play. The Gators are behind by just 1.5 games as will enter the game with a 7-1 mark in SEC action.
Additionally, the Wildcats hold a 90-33 edge in the all time history vs. the Gators, and have won six of the last eight matches, including a 70-54 victory in the 2011 SEC Tournament championship.
Meanwhile, the Gators have won seven games in a row, including vital victories over ranked teams Mississippi State and Vanderbilt that helped the team to climb back into the top 10. The team has also achieved victories over Texas A&M, Florida State and Arizona in overtime, as well as recent wins against South Carolina and Ole Miss. However, the Gators have struggled when playing outside Lexington, losing all their road games to date this season. Two of those losses were against top five teams Ohio State and Syracuse, while the other two losses were to the 12-12 Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the 11-12 Tennessee Volunteers.
Despite the fact the Gators seem to get more impressive in each game, Florida will play vs. one of the toughest teams in the nation and is slated as a nine point underdog against Kentucky. The Gators have the advantage in the passing game, although, the Wildcats hold an advantage in rebounding, field shooting and defense. The Wildcats own one of the strongest defenses in the NCAAB, which yielded an average of 47.5 points over its last four games, and allowed only three opponents to reach the 65 point mark this season.
