After an unquestionable 24-2 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL Wildcard weekend, the New York Giants will try to continue its run for the national title this weekend when they visit the Lambeau Field to face the defending Super Bowl championship Green Bay Packers.
In recent years, the Giants have experienced both success and failure when visiting the Packers. Since December of 2010, the Packers (15-1 this season) have beaten the New York Giants (9-7 this season) twice. The last victory for the Giants happened in the 2008 conference championship game, when kicker Lawrence Tynes catapulted the team to the Super Bowl with an overtime field goal. That year, the 10-6 squad stunned fans and bettors after defeating the 18-0 New England Patriots in the Super Bowl XLII.
Since then, Green Bay has upset the Giants in two different occasions. Last year, the Packers crushed the Giants 45-17, ending their season and setting their way to the Super Bowl XLV. In their last match held at the Lambeau Field on December 4th, the Giants fell 38-35 in a surprisingly balanced game that both teams needed to win to secure a spot in the post season. But losing a game vs. Green Bay by a thin margin also seemed to boost Giants’ confidence. New York went on to win four of their last five games, although, the last three victories have all come at MetLife Stadium.
Based on the previous games and stats, it would be easy to assume that the almost “unbeatable” 15-1 Packers will have a clear path to win this Sunday's NFL playoff rematch, at least that’s what most oddmakers seem to think. Currently, the Packers are 9 point favorite to win the match. Contrary to the actual odds, Inspin’s NFL Simulator is giving the New York Giants 77.27% chances to win this game.
Let’s take a look at the current game odds:
