NFL Injury Report: Texans quarterback Matt Schaub out for season
By Inspin.com on Nov 24, 2011

By Dave Zamzack, Inspin.com Collaborator, November 24th, 2011

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was moved to injury reserve yesterday after specialist determined he’ll need season-ending surgery to repair a broken right foot.  Schaub suffered a Lisfranc injury in November 13th during a game vs. Tampa Bay.

According to Houston Texans official site, Schaub met with several foot specialists in Charlotte, N.C. Doctors determined that Schaub will require a season-ending surgery and scheduled the procedure for next week.

Schaub was averaging only 29 pass attempts per game, but had completed 61 percent of his throws this season. His 96.8 rating ranks sixth in the league, and his 15 touchdown passes rank ninth. Schaub will be replaced by Matt Leinart, who will start the next game at Jacksonville on Sunday. Additionally, the team has also signed Kellen Clemens to back up Leinart and T.J. Yates.

In other NFL injury updates, Philadelphia Eagles’ QB Michael Vick missed practice Wednesday because of his broken ribs, and at this time, it’s uncertain whether if he’ll be in condition to play against the New England Patriots this Sunday.  Vick broke his two lower ribs last Nov. 13 against the Arizona Cardinals and was replaced by secondary QB Vince Young in Week 11. Young threw two touchdown passes and led his team to a 17-10 victory against the New York Giants last Sunday.

Another player missing the rest of the season is Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson, who broke a bone in his lower right leg in a loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.  This is a sensible loss for the Bills.  Jackson is currently ranked third in the NFL with 934 rushing yards this season. Chiefs Coach Chan Gailey said backup C.J. Spiller will start Sunday against the New York Jets.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said running back Adrian Peterson will miss Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons if he’s not able to return to practice by this Friday. Peterson, who was in a loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, has not fully recovered from a sprained left ankle remains in a walking boot.

Finally, the Kansas City Chiefs have found a new Quarter Back after losing Matt Cassel to a season-ending injury. Chiefs’ officials confirmed that Kyle Orton, who was released by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, has signed up as the team’s new QB.  The Chiefs will have to pay $2.6 million left on his contract that expires after this season.
