NHL Game Preview: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Florida Panthers
By Inspin.com on Jan 13, 2012

NHL Hockey - Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Florida Panthers

Date/Time: Fri day, January 13th, 2012, 7:30 PM ET – Bank Atlantic Center

Game Overview:

First-place Florida Panthers (21-13-8) will receive the Pittsburgh Penguins (21-17-4) tonight at the Bank Atlantic Centre in Sunrise in the third meeting of the season between these two NHL Eastern Conference rivals.  The Panthers are 11-4-5 at home, and will prepare to play their second game of a tough three game homestand. Florida scored an important 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night, and will go on to host the Boston Bruins next Monday in an intense Stanley Cup rematch.

Pittsburgh is currently 10-10-2 on the road and will be playing its second game of a three game roadtrip. The team lost to the Washington Capitals 1-0 on Wednesday and will have to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

The Penguins will try to cut its longest losing streak (0-6) since a 0-5-2 stretch from Jan. 26-Feb. 8, 2006. A sensible factor for the Penguins is the absence of its star player Sidney Crosby, who has been sidelined since early December with concussion symptoms. Crosby has played in just eight games this season since first encountering his concussion issues last January. Coach Dan Bylsma said the captain will join his team mates during the trip through the Sunshine State, although Crosby is not expected to return to game action any time soon. In addition to Crosby, The Penguins won’t count with defense Kris Letang (concussion), Robert Bortuzzo (concussion) and Simon Despres (lower body), as well as forward Jordan Staal (sprained left MCL).

Both teams met on November 19th, when the Panthers scoring a 3-2 victory over the Penguins. These are the current NHL odds as provided by WagerWeb.com.
