After reading the news on Kyle Orton being cut loose from the Broncos on Tuesday night, I started to ponder what could be his next move and which NFL team could or would find his contribution as a positive upgrade for their QB needs. This prompted me to do some research and this where my top 5 findings.
1. Chicago Bears
For obvious reasons the Bears would be on the list. Orton’s first glance at NFL glory was in Chicago. Although, manager Jerry Angelo said the "lamenting period" over Jay Cutler's injury is over, and he's ready to focus on back up Caleb Hanie taking over the offense, I still believe Orton to be the better option. The Bears are playing well and they are contenders for a wildcard berth.
2. Miami Dolphins
With no chance to draft Andrew Luck as their first pick in the NFL Draft due to the team winning three straight, Miami will have to consider other options for their QB needs in the near future. Since they have shown a momentum of good performance Orton could be the needed push to help the Dolphins contend in the 2012 season.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have considered putting in a waiver claim for Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton, NFL.com’s Steve Wyche reports. The Chiefs are seeking a replacement in light of quarterback Matt Cassel’s injury. Few experts would consider the Chiefs to be a strong NFL team without RB Jamaal Charles and QB Matt Cassel. However, they are only two games out of first place. Without even entering other factors, is easy to figure out why Kyle Orton would be a huge improvement over Tyler Palko.
4. Washington Redskins
The Redskins are trailing last in the NFC East and they need someone to provide leadership at QB. Oddly enough, this would be the second time Orton replaced Rex Grossman at QB, as he did with the Chicago Bears.
There is no dominant team in the NFC East and Orton could definitely bring the Redskins closer to the rest of the pack.
5. Houston Texans
No longer an option for Orton as the latest news has it that the Texans placed Matt Schaub on Injured reserve and signed Kellen Clemens to back up Matt Leinart, effectively ending speculation that the team would go after Kyle Orton.
