Washington State Cougars dismiss Coach Paul Wulff
By Inspin.com on Nov 30, 2011

Washington State’s football coach Paul Wulff was fired this Tuesday after four years during which his team was able to win only nine games, including 4 games in the Pac-12. His 9-40 career record as head coach of Washington State is the worst winning percentage of any coach in the program’s history. This means the team won’t lose much after all. I’ll bet even a chimp can do better than that.

His 4-8 record in 2011 was his best showing during his 4 years with the Cougars, which closed this season with a 38-21 loss to the Washington Huskies on Saturday in the Apple Cup. Wulff took the Washington State job after eight years at Eastern Washington, where he achieved a pretty decent 53-40 record. He was replaced by Coach Bill Doba, who went 30-29 in five seasons.

Wulff, who also played as an offensive lineman for the Cougars from 1986-89, received the news in a meeting with Washington State’s Athletic director Bill Moos yesterday morning. As reported by several local media sites, Moos said the teams is expecting to find an apt substitute in the next two or three weeks, and added the team is currently analyzing a list of candidates, including former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach and former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, but declined to unveil other names.

Only time can tell if the Cougars will be able to put their things together and solve their athletic issues. In the meantime, here’s the NCAA Football schedule for this week. For additional information on the available NCAA odds and picks, click here.
