Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have lost all of their swagger | News Article by inspin.com

The Philadelphia Eagles seemed like this season’s team of destiny. After a successful campaign in 2022 that saw the emergence of new superstar quarterback Jalen Hurts, it suddenly felt like the Eagles were due for a championship sooner or later.

Now that they had their gunslinger of the future, everything was in place for an eventual title run.

With Hurts under the center, the Eagles had a stacked offense. A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith lining up wide gave Philadelphia perhaps the most talented wide receiver duo in the entire league. Everyone already knew of the Eagles vaunted offensive line.

Stacked with size to go along with their impeccable technique, Philadelphia was expected to win in the trenches against virtually any defensive line in the NFL. That group, along with Hurts’s outstanding lower body strength at quarterback, gave birth to the Tush Push, the most unstoppable and controversial play in football.

On the other side of the ball, Philly was loaded with both veteran and young talent in 2022. That group wound up allowing the eighth-least points on defense at 344 and finished top three in yards allowed.

With one of the deepest rosters in the NFL, the Eagles dominated their way through the 2022 season, finishing 14-3 for the top record in the NFC East and the conference overall.

Their run didn’t stop in the postseason either. The Eagles began the playoffs with a first-round bye, before facing the surprising New York Giants in the divisional round. They made short work of the Daniel Jones-led offense, holding New York to just seven total points en route to an absolute rout, 38-7.

Still, Philly had doubters who expected their postseason to end against the vaunted San Francisco 49ers in the following round.

Philadelphia Eagles Last five Games
Teams W / L Scores
Buffalo Bills W 37-34
49ers L 42-19
Cowboys L 33-13
Seahawks L 20-17
Giants W 33-25

But, Philly not only held their own against the Niners, they outright dominated them too, 31-7. They ultimately fell short in Super Bowl LVII, as Patrick Mahomes secured his second championship with the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35.

Despite the loss, though, the Eagles had earned the respect of the league and came into this current season as popular picks to return to the Super Bowl and even win it all. That confidence remained as Philadelphia carved their way through the early season, with a 10-1 start to the year. Now, they’ve lost three straight and their swagger has completely dissipated.

Fans and pundits have begun calling for Head Coach Nick Sirianni, Offensive Coordinator Sean Desai, and even Jalen Hurts to lose their jobs. Will the Eagles bounce back and become the team of destiny once again? Or is this the beginning of the end for this Philadelphia core?
