Week 3 of the NFL season will kick off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers in Cleveland where the Browns are going in as 5-point favorites.
Cleveland Browns Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
• Moneyline: Browns (-225) vs. Steelers (185)
• Spread: Browns -5
• Total: 38.5 Points
Although the Browns are favored at home in Week 3, the Steelers should not be counted out and the public has been very adamant on this. Through two games already, Pittsburgh has been one of the most bet on teams taking 63% of bets through that time. The tenth most action taken overall of any team in the league. With the Week 3 lines just opening, they are already taking in over 60% of action to cover the spread.
Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Trends
The Steelers action comes with good reasoning behind it with plenty of betting trends backing them up. In the Steelers last five games as an underdog between 4-6 points on the road, they’ve covered the spread in four of those games and have won three of the five as well.
Taking it a step further, also visited Cleveland as an underdog just six times since 2003 and have gone a strong 4-2 against the spread in those matchups.
Looking at some of their trends on the point total, while 38.5 might seem like a low enough number to go over, history is pointing towards the under. In those six matchups that they have gone to Cleveland as an underdog, the under has gone 1-5. Also, in their last seven games as a road underdog between 4-6 points, the under has gone 6-1.
Cleveland Browns Betting Trends
The Browns have some horrific trends facing their way that back the Steelers coming out on top. In their last six games against Pittsburgh overall, they’ve gone a measly 1-5 against the spread.
Since 2012, they’ve been favored to win at home between 4-6 points seven times and have not covered the spread a single time in that span. Going even deeper, in those seven games, they hold a 2-5 record straight up.
Similar to Pittsburgh, their point total trends are also in favor of the under. In their last seven home games overall, the under has gone 2-5. The under has also cashed in five of their last seven games when playing against the Steelers in general and in seven of their last nine when playing the Steelers at home.
